Rex Stewart's Artwork
About the art...
As a Christian artist, I have been blessed
to encounter many commissions, art shows, publicity and the like.
My area of expertise covers many venues and my subject matter has
no limitations. In essence, I have had the opportunity to excel in
every and all mediums of fine art; not compromising or giving way
to any one subject.
My first work was purchased by a model while studying
at the Albany Institute of History and Art at the age of twelve.
That purchase sparked commissions throughout the Community as grew
and prospered as a young artist. Years later I became a member of
the prestigious Salmagundi Art Club in New York City, winning my
first award before moving on to maritime interests.
During my early
years I became a prolific portrait artist, drawing and painting portraits
of Albany's prominent personalities. From there, landscapes and seascapes
came into vogue during my teenage years -with nudes in the counterbalance.
Such works became highly sought after, but later discontinued because
of their sensual implications and my directed faith walk.
As I grew
during the 70s and 80s as a landscape artist, showing and auctioning
in several galleries and museums throughout New York, I began to
esteem my interest toward the maritime. It was in this genre that
I discovered my niche while attending a group show at South Street
Seaport. Two hand carved wood sculptures, glass encased, became the
show stoppers of that event. One being a Biblical piece from the
book of Matthew where Jesus calmed the waters in a storm and the
other being New England whalers in pursuit of their prize. A year
after this notable event both works sold on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
A new era was birthed concerning these works which is 'today' the
forerunner in the maritime.
On these pages are examples of my works
in the fine arts. These are paintings, drawings and pastels, which
reflect portraits, landscapes and nauticals. Though these were all
commissioned works, I still produce such work today.
Should you be
