Rex Stewart OriginalsAbout Rex Stewart

Nestled amongst the pines in the Capital City of Albany, New York in the quaint neighborhood of Pine Hills, renowned New York-New England artist Rex Stewart sculpts his pine images of themes attractive to the discerned collector. His subjects are meticulously carved in wood never before seen in contemporary times. Authorship to concept and design has been his focal point for 'originality' in his work which doesn't bias his formats/vignettes.

Research has been the criteria of his works' birthing since youth. He studied at the Albany Institute of History and Art at the age of 12. Prior to that honor, the Bishop of the Albany Diocese (his former principal) presented him advanced art classes at a local high school while attending elementary school. Today, a born-again Christian, Mr. Stewart has enjoyed the greater of the maritime, one of the areas of his expertise.

Rex Stewart had shown as a former member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City during the early 90s, an award-winning artist. His 20-year tenure with Mystic Seaport made him the only artist of color to have maintained a longstanding relationship, which included the two heralded, exhibits "The Masters" and "The International" by invitation. His works have been well received and collected in and around New England from Block Island, R.I. to Searsport, Maine; but his true prominence has been and continues to amass collectors worldwide.

Aside from his wood sculptures, Mr. Stewart enjoys his other artistic endeavors that prospered over the years. These categories include, but not limited to portraits, landscapes, maritime scenes, civil war, shadowboxes, restoration projects and the like. Working with corporations, antique dealers, decorators and distinguished collectors promoted the artist to be one of America's forerunners in his genre. The appreciation of his collectors has guided him to higher levels of workmanship that place the artist in his own league. This fact enables his work to be priceless and timeless by way of scope and presentation.

Mr. Stewart's Christian belief is that the world is universal and its present day, as well as the history, should be documented in truth and not by man's fictional admonition as many artists are so bound.
